I mean from the normal activities you do everyday. Is it a full off-day out of the week? Or an hour a day of relax time in the evening just to unwind. And what do you do when you take a break? I can't seem to be consistently in premed mode and I need a moment by myself to be "lazy" usually sometime in the weekend. Then I'm recharged. Are any of you premeds different/same?

🙂

dude...WORK HARD, PLAY HARD...

youre in college man...enjoy...it will be the best times of your lives... this is how i do it...

i go out friday and saturday always...usually thursday too... anyways i study all the time on sun, mon, tues, wed, thurs, fri and saturdays winter and spring...not fall cause it is football game saturdays..i dont do any work then...but anyways as long as you do work every day you have time you can party the other days... dude just remember work hard play hard...its the best way to live!!

by the way i have a 3.8 at a top 30 school

Break??? What's that? Nope, never heard of it. 😎

Of course, I take time to unwind. Spend some time with friends, eat a good meal, anything to get mind off school. It's not that hard to balance school and a social life.

unfortunetly waaay to often. I really procrastinate and do most of my studying a couple weeks before the exams.

^^^ same for me!

I use the gym as a huge break...i usually go and dont pay attention to the clock and leave a few hrs of free time open for it (which usually hurts me when i return and notice the piled up hw/readings).

I also like the occasional SDN/Facebook/etc.

I deal with at least 25 emails/day so that keeps me busy as well as a "break" i suppose.

music/soda/just laying down for a while helps alot haha (soda gives the caffeine to keep me up and the laying down lets me relax for a while = good formula for rest) 🙂

Yeah seriously. Looking back, I think I probably should've put more effort into school.

I found balance, though... in my fourth year...

lol i'm going the opposite direction... i started all motivated and focused in 1st year and totally killed it... but then each year i get less and less motivated and more lazy and prone to distraction, along with a tendency to have priorities in the wrong order (ie working out/exersise, watching the hockey game, surfing the web/forums, going out with friends, then school).

I'm basically limping to the finish line lol. I hope i get in to med school this year so i can finally refocus myself (its really hard to keep motivated when you know that what you're doing now isn't what you want to do for the rest of your life).

Well I had a similar thing going on. First year was GREAT in terms of grades and social life but I was running off of my good teachers and classes from high school. My study skills were terrible, however, and stayed that way until fourth year and that's why I think I should've learned my lesson earlier.

Ditto about med school, though. Good luck to the both of us 🙂

Cigarettes.

No better way to look AND feel cool. 😎

SSMMMMMOOOOOOKKKEEEE!! 👍

I play basketball when I need a break, nothing better than being able to Take out all your agression on the Rim, and fellow players.

I take many mini breaks during the day. I am just a naturally inefficient person. Typically I would work for 40 minutes and waste time for 20 min, and repeat that pattern. On Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights I go out with my friends and hit up a few parties.

On weekday lunches I often grab short (1 hour max) lunch dates or coffee dates with girls that I meet around campus. It helps to balance out my day and I enjoy female company more than male.

If you work hard, you should be able to strike a balance in your life. School is your priority, but if you have a few extra moments that you would had wasted anyway (due to lack of concentration), invest that by doing something fun and crazy.

In ten years you won't remember that saturday night where you did absolutely nothing but study and watch TV. You will remember that night when you got drunk at a bar, got shot down by that hot girl in the red dress, then went sledding down the side of a hill until 3am.

Attempt to study 7 days a week. Hell, I studied on my birthdays. However, I like to take 5 minutes off during every 50 minutes I study to browse these forums, etc.

For me, I like to take off every Sunday morning – afternoon during the school year, regardless of work load. During this time I sleep in, attend church, catch up with personal relations, or anything else that is not really necessary for me moving forward in academics, research or personal ambitions. Idk if this will work out in med school, however.

I take Friday night off every week to go on dates, hang out w friends, ect. I haven't worked on a Friday night since hs.
I also usually take a half hour to hour break before going to bed every night. I work pretty much all the rest of the time, all days of the week.

Usually two rounds of golf a week. On the golf course, my phone is on do not disturb and there isn't an academic thought in my mind👍

Weekends are mine. I'll bust my ass Monday to Thursday till my eyes bleed. But for now, before I enter the professional world, weekends will stay mine.

A couple of weeks before exams?!?! After freshman year, I don't think I studied for a single exam more than 4 days in advance.

Two labs reports, a grant outline, and two days of work this weekend.

Spent the last two nights drunk off my ass. No regrets. Now I work hard.

I can barely study more than 15 minutes at a time before needing a break and I nap everyday after I get off of work

I usually binge on random TV shows.

Dang. I don't think I studied more than a day for midterms (finals were a different thing since my school doesn't have a dead week).

This is how it typically went:

4 PM: Gotta study. But lemme catch up on this one TV show.
6 PM: Ok. Time to start. But I need to first get food.
7 PM: No. I'm going to start for real this time. Hmm.... Doesn't look like a whole lot of stuff to go over. Maybe I'll be done by 11.
11 PM: I'm only 1/3 done? WTF????
12 AM: Ok, it's allnighter time!
2 AM: If I make a 100 on the next exam, I only need to get X on this one. So lemme skip all this stuff.
2: 30 AM: Oh god I'm never going to finish
3 AM: I promise I'm going to start studying several days before next time.
4 AM: Not sure if I'm hallucinating or if Speed Racer really is my neighbor.
5 AM: Screw it. I'm going to bed.
8 AM: Wakey time!
9:40 AM: Walking to class with my textbook in my face and cramming stuff I haven't gone over.
10 AM: Test time
11 AM: Test done. Time to go to sleep.

I seriously need to fix my work ethic for med school.

Me too!!!

What? Studying a few weeks before college exams isnt cramming. lol.

Thats like overkill

Way to bump a thread from when I had just graduated college.

youre in college man...enjoy...it will be the best times of your lives...

Though I'll make a point about this line... If college was the best years of your lives, you seriously peaked too soon.

Me too!!!
Maybe look into an ADHD screening!

If you asked the people around me they'd tell you I never take a break...which is a complete and utter lie!

The truth is, I try to get most of my work done while on campus so I can veg out at night. They tend to see me on campus a lot where I'm usually running around doing this or that. But when I'm home...it's Netflix/Tumblr/Facebook/Forum Hopping time!

Generally my free time belongs to me so I can recharge my batteries (introvert alert), however if a friend wants to hang out I rarely say no.
