At the book store I will often see stuff like "Princeton Review Anatomy coloring book" or something along those lines. Do med students find these useful or are they just extra work?

what about iPad/tablet apps for medical students?

I wouldn't waste my time coloring in pictures while in med school. Netter's is the anatomy atlas that pretty much every med school uses, and its pictures are already colored in.

iPad/tablet helps a lot. In my study set-up I have my laptop out, directly in front of me, for watching videos/lectures/looking stuff up online/doing qbanks, an iPad to my left for looking at the current powerpoint/pdf, and another iPad on my right open with sketchy/Picmonic/another PDF book that is useful. I also have first Aid directly in front of me and another 2-3 books of the relevant topic out as well. It's like the command station on a spaceship headed to success. (I know it's cheesy)

I used the Essential Anatomy app occasionally. Never used an anatomy coloring book although many of my classmates have found them helpful.

In terms of books, I've used Costanzo's Physiology (excellent), First Aid (good for summarizing things) and Gray's for practice questions.

I had a copy of the Netters coloring book during anatomy and didn't open it once. I ended up realizing it would be a low yield use of time. I strongly recommend buying the Netters flash card set for anatomy.

I use my iPad all the time. When it's late and I want to just lay in bed and study, I pull up the OneNote app and scroll through notes/slides. Also, our school gives us access to Epocrates, UptoDate, and Dynamed which all have great iPad app platforms.
