Hey guys,

I was wondering what you guys thought of a possible approach of taking the DAT sooner than I thought. Actually, in a month and a half. (Oct 29). Well, here is my situation...

I've already taken Gen Chem and its pretty fresh still......I just started taking my Bio I and OChem I...... I think I am a pretty fast learner but what do you guys think? Is this too much? To try and learn BIO and OCHEM in 6weeks?

I suddenly had a huge burst of motivation and confidence that I could accomplish this, but it could just be me being impulsive....

The reason I want to take it before Nov, is because I suddenly thought to myself...why wait until 2006 cycle? If I can do well on my DATs next month then I have a good chance to get in for the 2005 cycle. I already have my BA and I'll have all my prerequisites done before Fall 2005....All I have to do is work my tail off for the next 6 weeks and hope I do well. After all, I can retake it and apply for 2006 cycle like I originally planned.....But, again, I would like to get some feed back on this. Have you ever heard of anyone doing this? I know dental pilot did something similar......

THanks for your reply,

Generallee

Uhhh...I don't think six weeks is enough to learn all of bioI along with OChem at the same time. Bio I can be mastered in less than six weeks if you go crazy, but O-Chem cannot. The DAT also includes alot of stuff from O-ChemII like aromatics, grinard reagents, o/p/m substituents, and various reactions.

Then again, maybe you could take the DAT in six weeks if you get a handle on the broad concepts. O-Chem after all does seem to be the easiest science section. My advice is go ahead and give it a shot, there's no harm in trying, you can always retake it.

I have to agree with briansle. I think that there is no way that you can learn Bio and O-chem in 6 weeks worth of time and expect to do well in those sections. If it were just O-chem I think you would have a shot. Bio is so much more than what is just covered in the Kaplan book, and even the Kaplan book is a pile of information to try and learn in 6 weeks, along with college classes and trying to learn o-chem is a stretch in my opinion.

Also you need to look at deadlines for schools that you want to apply at. I know some schools, have deadlines around Nov. 1 (OHSU, UW, UNC..) and your scores will not reach schools before that date. I would do some serious calling around and determine if it would be worth the time and effort to try and prepare for the DAT to not be elgible at the schools you hope to get into.

take your time. I pushed my dat back by about a month and am glad i did. I started on my pre-reqs about 24 months prior to take the DAT
