How relevant is cGPA?

I was wondering how much weight your cGPA has. Say you end up with a 3.3 cGPA and a 3.7 sGPA. Would you be treated as a 3.7 when applying? Should people prioritize studying for science class over humanities and foreign languages?

A 3.3 cGPA will hurt you regardless of your sGPA. Ideally both are >3.7.

No. Both are very important. If you look on MSAR the average cGPA of accepted applicants is 3.77 (1st quartile = 3.60), whereas the average sGPA of accepted applicants is 3.72 (1st quartile = 3.49). More leeway is actually given to the sGPA it seems.

@EmbryonalCarcinoma @notsobabydoc and I all have 3.6ish cGPAs with 3.9ish sGPA and a high-ass MCAT. The cGPA does not appear limiting.

Take this with a grain of salt as all of us also have extraordinary circumstances behind those numbers and the ECs to back it up....but everyone saying “you are more than a single metric” is 100% correct and I wish I followed that advice pre-application instead of stressing.

My situation was theoretical, rather than a direct mirror of my expected grades (although, anything could happen). Thank you all for your thoughts!
