At a glance, all still true, but amplified. What qualified as a high enough Step and enough research in 2009 is very different than 2020.

The big shakeup will be after the Step 1 switch to P/F. Many seem to think Step 2 CK will just fill that role but I'm skeptical that it will be possible to 1) take it early enough or 2) reliably grind out a high score like you could on Step 1. So the "recipe for success" for fields like Derm could look dramatically different in five years.
