I was just wondering how saturated that area is since I would like to live there in the future. I went to high school in Austin and out of all the placed I have lived in texas it is by far the coolest place to live in texas.

I'm pretty sure it's not saturated enough to be hard to find a job. I think I saw a couple postings about openings in clinics. As far as retail goes...From what I've seen, one of my floater pharmacists I work for (I'm a part time ptech) switched to part time, so she's only working 7 hours a weekday each week and 1 weekend a month. THat was cut down from like 40 hours/week. And my PCI is retiring in a year or two, and the other home pharmacist is switching stores after because he doesn't want to be PCI. So that leaves you this store I work at completely opened LOL. Just start asking. It's pretty far from downtown, but I drive to UT from here every day. Just get a BMW so your drive is enjoyable.

Austin Pharmacist Job

I would say not many positions at all. And with UT grads spilling out every year and with residency trained pharmacists wanting to work in Austin, if I was hiring, I would be very selective.

I don't know man, the pharmacy I work in is really understaffed, and the two home store pharmacists are leaving soon.

I don't think there are as many jobs in ATX as other metro cities like Dallas or Houston. I tried to get a summer intern job in Austin and it was no luck...had to go back to Dallas-Fort Worth to work...Now as I'm back with school and stuff, I kinda want to work again, but definitely no more retail....I'm still searching around for PRN hospital intern positions to fit my classes' schedule... If you want to find a pharmacy job, I think retail might be okay as Austin does have a decent number of Walgreens, CVS, HEB, Safeway's, etc. I know that Scott & White offers a really great opportunity for any freshly graduated Pharm.D., but it's in Temple, an apporximately 50-min to one-hour away from the capital's heart...too far to drive and I-35 seriously sucks! 🙁
