How selective are schools with interview?

The interview is regarded as very important by all schools. You may be an excellent applicant, but if you have lackluster people skills, you are out.

I dont know about other schools, but out of 2000 or so applicants, Tufts granted 500 interviews for 154 seats (for last year).

anyone else know the acceptance vs interviews granted ratio for other schools?

Some schools are known to post these types of stats on their websites.

What schools?

UOP interviews 300 / 1900 candidates and finally selects 138 students.

I was told by the admissions office at Harvard that they interview roughly 100 for a class of 35

Gavin,

I can't help but feel that I'm "pumping" you for information due to my upcoming interview (so I'm sorry for that), but I just wanted to know what type chances I actually have of being excepted to ASDOH.

I assume this 120/54 statistic is from last year. I was just wondering if you know if ASDOH is planning on interviewing a similar amount this year. The reason I ask is that I believe I read that interviews at AZ were later in the year (i.e. Nov, Dec) since you were the first class. So I was wondering if you believe that ASDOH will interview more applicants this year since there is "more time" to interview applicants.

Also, a follow up question. I remember reading that a someone said that they were accepted "on the spot" at their AZ interview. Can I assume that this is only because the interview was AFTER Dec 1st?

I'm interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

No problem. That stat is from last year, however I think they are only planning on interviewing 130-140 for the 54 seats this year.

And yes, many of us were notified on the spot because it was after December 1. In fact, the FIRST interviews last year were after December first.

Quite a different story this year. Here's the summary:

~900 apps currently.
Expecting ~2600 apps.
Will interview ~135 for 54 spots.

At my Tufts interview, they told us that they accept 80-85% of the people they interview.

The question that I want to ask, is how much weigh should you put on what they tell you at the interview. Are the people interviewing you part of the faculty or just the admissions staff?

What I'm wary about is for them to make promises that sound too good to be true.

keep in mind that tons of acceptances go unredeemed because people get multiple acceptances. i know several people that chose UCLA over harvard and so on and so forth.

Why are there such great variation in class sizes among dental schools??
