Umich for instance has some pretty strict requirements. Per their site

http://www.dent.umich.edu/admissions/home/dds/admissionsprocess

Applicants are required to demonstrate, at the time of application, a minimum of 100 hours of dental shadowing and/or volunteering. Applicants without this minimum number of hours may not be reviewed or considered for interview.

Let's say you only have around 60 hours, but your app is otherwise decent. Would they let it slide? I noticed they used the word "may" instead of "will".

With the number of applications schools receive, I wouldn't give them an easy way to dismiss your application. I believe they just added that a cycle or two ago. So they're probably still in enforcement mode. Of course there will be exceptions. But don't go in with the hopes that you'll be one of them.

Edit: Plus, it's in red. Red mean business.

It seems that they actually care about it. Some schools do not care as much since it is mostly an honor system thing. However, you still have time before you submit your application, so if you are worried, you can spend these days before submission to shadow.

I hope you realize 100 hours of shadowing doesn't require that much effort at all. Shadowing for a typical working day 8-4, going 5 times is already 40 hours...

Didn't want to start my own thread, but I was wondering if you are listing hours you have completed or if you are including hours you have planned for the near future?

List only hours you have completed.

Listing "planned" hours/activities in juvenile and will likely be taken as such.
