Hi,

I am new to this site. Just finding information and ideas of what steps to take next.

I am a non traditional premed student with a baccalaureate in psychology. I have a low gpa (2.75). I was sick for a few years and now I am at my best. I am 30 years old and married with full support from my husband to go Bach to school. No kids yet. I want to go back to school to become a DO because I do believe in the whole person approach.

I have heard of others with lower gpa who have gotten accepted into DO school because they went back to start over.

What are some recommendations as far as either to get a second b.a. or masters?

I started taking prerequisites like Trigonometry this summer and plan taking chem 1 + lab and physics 1 + lab next semester.

Should I continue the DIY route or should I do a second b.a.or masters?
What are some recommend steps ?

Thank you in advanced for your reply and please give me core hard truth on what to do to with that gpa
.

Read Goro's guide for sure. I wouldnt do a second bachelors; you have so many credits at this point that you wont really turn your GPA around. I did a DIY post bac and was successful; it's the cheapest option by a long shot. It may take more time, but frankly you will need a year or two to shadow, volunteer, get LORs, etc.

Sure 🙄

You need to get to a 3.0 at minimum. Make a calculation of how much this takes. At 30, I don't think it's worth it considering it will probably be close to 2-3 years to do and then likely a masters and then applying. We are no longer in grade replacement world. We are talking minimum 34 at starting, 38 at graduating and 41 minimum to start chipping out debt. I would consider a faster route to employment like RN to NP in a 3 year program, but that's just me.

No Bachelors or Masters
Read Goros guide
Take all the pre-reqs and get 3.8+
Take some upper bachelors level biology/ science courses until you have a 3.0 GPA without retakes.
Study for MCAT and work on ECs for one year, apply DO and win! 🙂
