All these schedules budget only a couple days for everything but it took me a full week to do cell/molecular+biochem, and so far it's taken me 5 days and I'm still not done with microbiology...which just seems to drag on and on and on and on.

I did 12 hours of microbio today and that apparently equaled only six pages of First Aid...wtf?!?! Am I going into too much detail in CMMRS or does it take everyone this long? My eyes are bloodshot at this point and I should probably be asleep but I'm obsessed with at least getting to viruses. Should I just stop copying stuff in from CMMRS and just go with FA only for Viruses? Should I cover the pharm in the micro section now or leave it to cover with pharm in general or in the systems? And how do I stop losing my mind?

I am using just FA +microcards, for micro. Plenty of info with q-banks.

TOO MUCH. Just review the charts at the end of each chapter in CMMRS.

Cover the pharm now. You'll thank me later when you do Q-banks.

It's been pretty easy seeing that my school only gave us about 4 weeks in which to take it, that is if you wanted any legitimate break (a few days off) before rotations. 😱 Basically it means I have had to prioritize, as well as work my butt off for Step 1 one chunk at a time starting back in February.

I'm currently a half-day behind, which is better than I expected.

Micro was the first thing I did and it took me 6 days too. I read through CMMRS then would read my highlighting to make notes. If anything, I would recommend reading and writing simultaneously without the highlighting to make things go faster. FA is SPARSE in terms of micro, so I think you're doing ok.

After micro, nothing else has taken as long. I think you should be getting through at least 20-30 pages per day in each subject. If it's taking you longer you are writing too much. I only read additional books if I am poor in a subject. For subjects I remember better, I just use books other than FA if something makes no sense in FA.

Focus on overcoming slowness, I've made it a key part of my day since, like you, it weighs me down easily!

Thanks for all the feedback! 😍 Keep it coming too anybody has more tips, since I'm moving at a slug pace and any ideas to speed it up will be helpful.

I think I've definitely been writing way, way, too much since I've managed to fill about 5 sheets of looseleaf on both sides, so 10 pages of notes in addition to all the space in on the pages in first aid. I've been somewhat obsessively trying to get everything in CMMRS into First Aid this way but I guess I definitely need to streamline everything since it's now day 7 and I have half the micro section left to cover (viruses and all the drugs) 🙁

I haven't even been doing the micro qbanks yet since I felt like hadn't done enough of the micro section to answer anything but I'll start hitting it hardcore today since it sounds like that might be a lot better than trying to transcribe all of CMMRS

Gonna try to learn how to skim/read faster through CMMRS and only very selectively add/highlight stuff in FA. It's really hard because once I see info in CMMRS I have this urge to make sure it's written into FA, and if I'm not spending insane time writing everything I've been spending time trying to get over not writing it down (since I start to get paranoid if I don't write it).

Partly this is because someone told me that they had beefed up the micro for 2009, which made me really want to beef up my 2008. Guess I gotta really focus on speed because I'm not getting anything close to 20-30 pages right now.

If it's any encouragement, I've found that organ systems are going much faster for me than biochem and micro did. I lost time there, and I'm making it up now.

Reading CMMRS front to back may help you score well on the micro in UWorld but for the real thing it's overkill. Charts + FA should serve you well, especially if you're in a hurry.

Agree 101%. Same is happening with me.Organ systems much much faster and easier than basic principles section in FA.
