Can anyone from previous cycles give some insight into the interview process for those of us who are new? Seems as though most interviews occur late summer early fall and are aimed at early Dec. acceptances. It appears that there are then some interview offers made in the Dec to Feb. time frame. Is the fraction of invites post Dec. very small relative to the fall or are there a significant number of post Nov. interviews conducted? Why do the schools hold such late interviews, seems like they would just reach lower into the pool of those they already considered suitable for interview as they were already considered superior. Perhaps late interviews are exclusively given to those that apply late and have really awesome stats?

My real concern - if I don't recieve offers for a pre-Dec. interview is there really any chance of recieving a post Dec. interview invite (assuming that the update doesn't really change anything and I don't have new test scores) or should I accept an early lack of interviews as a clear indication that there is little hope for this cycle?

Thanks for any insight you can offer!

Thanks, that answers the first half of the question. The majority of interviews are pre-Dec.

Any thoughts on who gets the remaining post 12/1 interviews. Are these strictly late comers and those who had a positive update?

If you were in the first batch of applicants, and the schools you applied to have already been giving out interviews for a week or two but not to you, is it time to conclude that you are out of luck for this cycle?

Don't mean to discourage anyone, just want to be realistic...

It's definitely not just late comers and positive updates. A few people I know from last years cycle got post december interviews and they applied early and from what I know didn't have any changes to their apps later on (they were acceptances as well!)

Definitely don't give up hope if you don't get interviews right away or when others from your batch do.

Its hard to make sense of the data unless you have all the data. Ok so say a school gives 90% of its interviews pre-december and 10% post december. It could be that usually most of the people (e.g 90%) applying in the cycle apply early enough to get per-december interviews and leaves only a small number of people applying later. OR it could be that most people that apply earlier and get pre December interviews are more qualified keeners with better stats then those that lag behind and apply later.
