Hello Everyone

I am a dentist from India.
My stats are:
84/107/3.4 one year experience in India
I have applied to various dental schools in US but didn't receive any invitation yet. I am bit discouraged. I want to improve my resume for the next year. Please tell me how to do research work in a university or add any publications. I dont know anything about this. I think its not easy to get into a university to do research. Please help meee.

Thanks a lot

Hi Everyone

Please help me to solve my problem

You may go to a medical school or dental school in your area and find a research lab. Ask the PI (principle investigator) whether you can do some volunteer work over there. If you are lucky you may learn some techniques such as PCR, electrophoresis, or even cell culture, etc. A decent publication needs creative idea and hard work. This means probably you have to spend a lot of time in the lab. It is almost impossible to get a publication in short period of time. So my suggestion is to put this in your volunteer section of your resume.

Btw, before you make this decision, make sure that the weakest link of your application is the lack of research experience. You may not have strong recommendation letter, your personal statement may not be impressive. So probably you need to make effort on these aspects as well.

Good luck!

Hello

Thank you so much for your reply. I have seen people on this forum who are doing mph from usa. I should think about that also to get into a dental school? I am confused. I will try to do some research work.

It takes at least two years to get a MPH (master of public health).

That's a good question. unfortunatly i have no idea about it but it would be great if other people tell us more!

I have seen dentists in other forums gettin an iv call at 84/83 part 1 score..If what stats they are suggesting are true..i would say strong lor's, statement of purpose..and observerships in US..and most importantly what i hv seen on upenn iv call forum a job as a dental assistant in US..
this is my opinion that you should become a certified dental assistant and work and make money till you get your admission instead of doing mph and getting a student loan..This is again just my opinion..would like an input from people who took up cda to put some more light into this..
