How to answer question about retaking the DAT

I received a letter from UDM asking among other things, for a reason why I haven't retaken the DAT. My scores weren't aweful, but not amazing either. The honest answer is that I just didn't want to do it again, in between work, school, and all other things, and possibly do worse. I would retake if necessary, but if not, obviously I would rather not...

Have any of you answered this type of question, and what did you answer?

I had the exact same thing happen to me and i replied to UDM that i dont intend to re-take the DAT (i didnt give a reason).
the following week i received an interview invite. hope this helps

I totally agree... just be honest. And yes, if you provided a score breakdown, we could give you a better estimate. For example, if you got a 25 in one section and a 15 in another (averaging out to 20), then it's obviously easier to raise the 15. But if you're all 19's and 20's across the board, then it's much harder to raise your score.
