Hi everyone,

How do you tackle questions like "describe your unique qualities that can contribute to the benefit of our medical school".

I mean I can list many qualities that should be present within a student and is criticial for their success in medical school, but I really cannot seem to figure out how to relate it to the benefit of medical school. For instance, I can work well indpendently and within a group but how is that beneficial to the school. Or may be I don't understand the question.

Any insight will be appreciated!

Take a look at info about the school and make your answer work for them. Don't lie!!! But emphasize your strengths that align their curriculum and student body. If they have a lot of team activities, peer-based learning, etc. - talk about your strengths as a member of a team. If they're a community based school with clinical sites all over rather than one main university hospital, talk about your love for diverse experiences and acclimating to different atmospheres. Do your research before you respond, is the best advice I can give you!

I think you could take a look at that school's mission statement to get a better idea of the kind of student they're looking for. Research-heavy? Service-oriented? You could also highlight the unique experiences you've had that could give you a diverse perspective. You don't necessarily need to discuss academics. Adcoms can see your numbers and can tell that you're a good student.
