Hey

I have been working with a professor for over two years now doing neuro research. This professor taught me physiology, and I got an A in his class. Problem is I kind of feel like he forgot that I ever took his class. He basically has been my research mentor ever since.

I am going to ask him for a LOR in March but I want him to say specifically in the letter that I took a class with him and that he was not solely my research professor.

I am wondering if it's fine if I can tell him to emphasize that point?

Thanks

When you ask him for the letter or recommendation just say "I wanted to request an LOR because you've been my research mentor and my course professor in physiology".

If he doesn't mention he was your physiology professor in the letter, then mention it yourself in the secondaries.

@gonnif Could really help in a situation like this if you're worried about schools dinging you if he doesn't mention that he was your course professor

Thank you for your reply! If you can please answer this follow up that would be amazing:

I am a non traditional student. Pharmacy.

Am wondering if a pharmacy practice professor would be considered science even though AAMC doesn't count it as BCPM (counts as health) I'm thinking of asking s psychiatric pharmacy professor just in case as an extra science.

Thanks

For purposes of LOR it is science
BCPM is solely an AMCAS term used GPA

BCPM does not equal science

I truly appreciate you Gonnif. Your tips above for how to brief a LOR writer was truly helpful, I never considered giving one my CV in addition to a the AAMC guide.

If he doesn't mention he was your physiology professor in the letter, then mention it yourself in the secondaries.

One thing to caution is that many schools require the professor to mention that he/she taught you in xxx science class explicitly in order to qualify as a science letter. If they only say you worked in their lab, adcom might not realize that they also taught you as a science faculty and you might get delayed processing of your science LOR.
