So I didn't get into dental school this round, but I will be reapplying next admissions cycle. My game plan for my gap year is to try to work in a dental office. The only thing is I don't know exactly how to go and ask a dental office if I can work there.

Unless I'm mistake, most dental practices want dental assistants who are certified. I have a lot of volunteer experience as a dental assistant at a free dental clinic, but that's about it. Do I go in and say that I can do a lot of the office busy work? Would working at the front desk of a dental office not be beneficial for my application as I reapply to dental school? Thanks for the help yall!

I'm in the same boat...I'm about to go shadow a friend of my friend who is a dentist...and I want to make something out of it not just "oh cool kthxfortimebye"

I also want to ask for possible dental assistant job etc, should I ask my friends friend or the head dentist?

Your game plan should be to improve your application with gpa, dat, post bac, MS and not with a da position.

About that doc toothache, I am having a similar issue, but I guess it's an issue many people have had for gap year.

The thing is GPA of the gap year will not influence the application GPA (i.e. by the time the application is submitted, he will not even have started post-bacc or MS). Do you still advice enrolling in them??

Not unless you want to extend your "gap year" to 3.

It would help A LOT if u take additional year of upper level science courses and get straight/mostly A's.
