Hi everyone,
So a little about me. I just graduated this past spring with a Health Science degree. Since my major didn't have any science classes, I am now an open university student completing my pre-reqs, so kind of like a post-bacc student. I am taking physics, bio and chem this semester. As of right now, I have a 3.3 gpa and am hoping to raise that to at least a 3.5 by the time I apply to dental school. I am the dental coordinator for Flying Samaritans at my school, and I volunteer at a children's hospital, where I have been for a year and three months. Ever since I graduated high school (7 years ago), I always had a job, but I quit my job this summer so I can focus on school and get my pre-reqs done. I have about 200 hours of shadowing experience and about 460 hours of volunteering experience (including the children's hospital and Flying Samaritans).
I was wondering if there is anything else that I can do to make myself a competitive applicant, besides have a good gpa and good DAT score? What do recruiters look for when they skim through thousands of applicants? I am trying to get a few strong letters of rec from my science professors and I need to get some from a dentist as well. Also, how can I write a strong personal statement? I know this post was a little long, but thank you for reading.
