Usually you will need to either also be an ATC or an APTA certified Sports specialist. You will also need to know someone probably so networking is really important. Sometimes working with a clinic that already has a relationship with a team will get you in the door.
A professor of mine works for a professional baseball team as their scientific consultant. He told me that it is all about who you know. Networking is extremely important. Furthermore, you should already have a lot of experience with athletes, especially the type of athletes you want to eventually work with. My professor started off working with high school baseball teams, then college teams, and then eventually professional teams.
