i am a first year pediatric resident and wants to apply for Peds GI . I want to know how competitive it will be and what should I focus on to improve my chances of matching .

check the NRMP website for fellowship data, there is a program director survey for each fellowship and what they care about.

Thanks for your input . How competitive is to get into . I have looked at the match data and noticed some positions went unfilled last year l.

If your intention is just to match, then all peds fellowship are generally not competitive except for some years (last year EM was crazy competitive, 2015 cardio was also very competitive). If your mind is set on specific programs or geographical locations then competitiveness might increase.

If you come from a good residency program and involved in GI research, along with good letters, you should be fine even for the more competitive programs.
