How to become a dental technician

I will be starting dental school in September, and until then I want to try working as a dental technician. I think it would expose me to some of the handwork that I'll be facing in dental school. What is the process/is there a license required to become a dental technician?

Most people who do dental lab work have a 2 year degree from a community college (http://www.ecc.edu/academics/programs/dentallab/curriculum.aspx), there is a certification process (CDT) but I don't believe there is a license requirement. Your best bet is probably to find a lab with a nice owner who will let you work there.
