Hello! First time poster here so I hope I'm in the right place. I'm currently working on building a school list, and am not sure how to use my MCAT scores. I took my first MCAT in 2018 and received a score of 506. I retook earlier this year and received a 522 on my second attempt. I'm trying to use WARS to put together a school list, but it does not consider MCAT retakes. Any advice on how to view my scores?

Honestly, I don't think you should treat your score as anything less than a 522. Maybe some adcoms will see it as something lower, maybe not. Depending on your GPA and extracurriculars, I don't think you should keep any schools off your list exclusively based on your MCAT. Anecdotal, but my brother retook his MCAT and went from the equivalent of a 508 to a 522 (it was the old MCAT), and based on the places he interviewed, it didn't hold him back anywhere.

Shadowing hours?

On the surface, a 522 is nothing to sneeze at, but many schools will average your scores. On the whole, I'd treat your score as a 515+

- IA resident
- 3.68/3.61 cGPA/sGPA
- 2000+ research hours 2 posters, 1 abstract, 2 summer research grants, no pubs
- 600 non clinical hours with 500 hours w/ a public non-profit that works with underserved populations by the time I apply next
- Significant (i think) leadership in said nonprofit (youngest ever member of board of directors)
- Involvement in a few student orgs with some leadership roles
- ~150 hours of clinical volunteering in hospital (aiming for ~300 by the time I apply)
- 200 hours employment as a CNA
- 65 hours shadowing

I am planning on sitting out this coming app cycle to really work on my application, so a lot of these hours should come up. I am getting my MPH during the year.

Thanks for the help!

Since your jump in MCAT score was greater than 10, I'd be more convinced that your more recent score is the proper screen score. Otherwise you can't control what a school will do unless you ask them ahead of time. As it stands, given the descriptions, you should be in a strong position to apply as suggested by my colleagues above.
