So my 4th semester will start on this fall(time flies! wow) and I am starting to think that I should get some experience like doctor shadowing, volunteering, research, etc.
I am already doing a research with this professor I have known since my 1st semester(very kind professor) so I think that is taken care of...but how do you guys find doctor shadowing/volunteer experience?
Do you guys contact individual doctor office outside the school? Or do it through your school? I am super lost.

For hospital/clinical volunteering, you usually have to apply through the hospital itself.
My shadowing comes from the family practice I had growing up. I think experiences vary for how to get shadowing experience

Finding hospital volunteer positions isn't hard. Look up your local hospitals, and they should have a volunteering section on their website.

As for shadowing, if you have a premed advisor, see if they have contacts you can use. If not, volunteer at a hospital, get to know some people, then ask them.

Other than that, you just have to cold call doctors.

Another recommendation for finding shadowing (since it can be very difficult) is, if your school has an affiliated medical school, see if the professor you're researching with has any contacts with physicians at the school. I got a decent number of hours this way, thanks to a helpful research mentor with connections.

The prof. I m working with is a chemical Engr. professor, but that sounds like wonderful idea. When I take Biochem maybe I can use that idea.

Ask a doctor. We're (some of us) usually very happy to have shadows in our departments - I am anyway. If you don't have a program who will work you in, go to a hospital and ask. We were all pre-meds, we were all medical students, we were all residents... You need to do the physical work of asking, calling.

I cold called a ton of clinics and health centers to find physicians who were willing to take premeds. This was a very time consuming process, but worked out in the end.
