When people say they have 2 years of research, does that include the next school year (usually senior year)?

For example, if you apply junior year summer, and you say that you have 2 years of research experience, does that mean you are doing research your senior year in addition to junior year? Or does that mean you did research sophomore & junior year?

Thanks, I know this is a stupid question.

In general, people mean the research that they have done already, not what they plan in the future. It doesn't matter in applications anyway, you put the start and end date, not how many years/hours you've spent there.

I always hated these types of questions, like i really know the exact date

What if you do an activity only during the school year, but it spanned multiple school years? Do you just specify that it was school year only in the description?

Thanks 🙂
