Hey everyone i just wanted to give my own two cents on the Bio section of the DAT. I took the DAT yesterday and i got a whopping 26. It was an amazing feeling walking out of the exam with a mark like that and anyone can do it!. Obviously I've studied for a long time to get that and I am a bio major in college as well as a T.A. in the Intro Bio Lab, but the biggest most useful thing to me was DAT Destroyer. I took the course with Dr. Romano and not only does he know his stuff like crazy but he wants to see you get those high grades and he does whatever he can to make you get there. The destroyer was so helpful, a great study tool to see where you stand after having reviewed the Bio on your own and let you know what your strong points and weak points are. Also there is so much random stuff on the actual test and i only knew about the concepts because of the Destroyer, otherwise I`m sure there would have been a lot more misses on my test. It is totally worth the money hands down he preps you like crazy and you should see how well done the orgo and chem sections are too! Dr Romano and Nancy did an outstanding job compiling this and are constantly updating it with new information too.
There`s a lot of discussion about what the best way to review the material is in the first place too! I Got Cliffs AP bio and Schaum`s and honestly read two pages in Schaums before i fell asleep . `They make it so boring it was really hard to actually read and assimilate any of the information let alone get the basic concepts. But Cliff`s was great it was clear and concise, had good review tests at the end and it actually explained concepts to me that i have been learning for three years in such a simple way i actually think i understood it better now than with all of my advanced Bio classes. I only wish i had heard about it when i took intro class.
The one other thing i found incredibly useful is these Q-cards i got from Sparksnotes.com. They were like 10 bucks and were incredibly useful teaching terms that my teachers had missed over the years and reasserting the information i already knew. There are 600 cards and some even with simple diagrams to go over too. It was very helpful and gave me the confidence i needed to destroy the bio section of the DATs! well worth it and highly recommended.
For those of you yet to take the DAT`s im telling you that you firstly shouldn`t freak out its a long process but if you do it right its all worth it in the end. Get Destroyer it is worth every penny and study the basics with Cliffs and sparksnotes.com
