Any advice on how to do well in an Anesthesia elective? I am still considering going into anesthesia, so I really want to do very well in this elective. Any particular books to read?
A good first book to read is Basics of Anesthesiology by Miller or Anesthesia Secrets. If you want something more in depth, go with Clinical Anesthesiology by Morgan and Mikail. I'm a MS4 going into Anesthesiology and have done a rotation. This was the general consensus I recieved from other students and residents. Good Luck

If you do a search for an old thread, this was covered in great detail before. Essentially be on time, show interest, and stay late to do and see as many cases as you can.
The little Miller textbook is the one that the majority of students read. Before you start your rotation, read all of the sections about airway managmeent and as much as you can about the management of basic cases (drugs, inhalational agents, timing, pre-op assessment, fluids, etc.). For each day's cases try to read ahead on the previous day to be able to ask case-specific questions and to be able to answer any case-specific pimping questions.
Try to take at least a couple of overnight calls as well. These rotations tend to be very user dependent so you can coast through it or really make an impression on the department as well as gain a wealth of knowledge and skills that will benefit you for whatevery field you choose to go into.
