since there are many multi-talented premeds on here, I was wondering if anyone know how to make a wallet sized photograph for interviews look professional? like using anytype of photo editing program. Thanks!

I assume you have the wallet sized photo and want to use it as a digital upload for your apps?

Just find a decent scanner. Scan it at a high DPI then shrink the image. Run some standard image correction crap on it if necessary and you'll be good as gold. If you're looking for photo editing, I'd suggest Photoshop. Don't ask me how to get it though, as I can't condone pirating software... (ARGHHH!)

Photoshop may be the "gold standard" but if you want something legal and nearly as good GIMP and its derivative applications are a great alternative that also happens to be free. It has most of the same features as Photoshop (with a few Photoshop doesn't have and, of course, missing a few Photoshop does have), but it's primary disadvantage is that it's got a steeper learning curve than does Photoshop. (That's what happens when you have tens of thousands of programmers contributing to an open-source project for free.)

The Photoshop stamp tool is all you need. 🙂

Plus some brightening/darkening might help.

actually it's the opposite, I have the digital files from a dslr, and I want to print it, but idk how to edit it to make it look professional (not even sure what professional looking even means)

Don't forget to sharpen! But really, that's about all you need to do.

Also crop out (command - k) any beer bongs that may appear in periphery.

Photoshop.com

upload > edit ( fiddle with settings until it looks nice) > download > print

adcoms love lens flair

Am I the only one who used the casual graduation pose pic?

i just asked a friend who's good with photoshop. that's what friends are for, right?

What KIND of photos did everyone use.

I'm debating between 3 types of photos.

1. Passport photo: Me not smiling + white background
2. Achievement Photo: Me standing next to a series of medals, plaques, and trophies
3. Action Photo: Sitting by piano, playing in a quartet, surfing, riding motorcycle, standing next to cliff overlooking ocean.... lol

How about a nice, professional head and shoulders portrait? The first one will look like a mug shot, the second is a bit boastful, and the third might miss the point of the photo - for adcoms to identify you.

Wear a nice shirt with maybe a tie, turn your shoulders a bit, sit up straight, and smile naturally. You can use a white wall but a colored or better yet, dark, wall will look a bit nicer.

Upload the photo into photoshop or GIMP, adjust brightness and sharpen, and crop to the school's desired aspect ratio. Don't make a big production of it; it's not that important.

For photo printing (if that's what you're asking), I like to use Costco. If you have a membership, just go to their website, upload your file, pick a store or have it mailed to you, and you're set. It'll be ready in a few hours, the price is dirt cheap, and their processing equipment is good enough to produce excellent results.

Go for the Anderson Cooper look. Head turned about 45 degrees, squinting off into the distance, attuned to everything going on in the vicinity except that silly camera.

Well in my house there's a nice table/cabinet/shelf combination that's built into the wall. I was thinking about getting a picture of me sitting at the table with all my awards subtly sitting on the shelf behind me. I think it would look very executive-esk...

I guess I'll just take a picture of myself with a suit on infront of a white wall.... How boring.

They just want to put a face on the application so they remember who you are. Just smile, and as long as you look like a normal person you should be fine.

I could be wrong, but I don't really think they care too much what your photo looks like. As long as they can see what you look like, you look presentable, and the photo isn't blurry or anything, I think whatever photo you chose will be fine.
