i've been calling tons of hospitals, e-mailing professors, and looking for volunteer positions for the summer. i'm taking classes at a local state school and figured it would be good to also get in some volunteer/research/shadowing hours, but i've been having trouble finding things because all of them want a longer commitment or are just plain ignoring me. what should i do? this would be on long island, new york, so if anyone has any suggestions of where else i should look or where to call, i'd greatly appreciate it.

also, is it okay to call my pediatrician for suggestions on where to find something or someone? or one of my other specialists?

how would it look to do research with a pharmaceutical company?

Umm, there is the answer. Places that have to train volunteers (however minimal that is) and put them through the approval process want to get a longer commitment than a summer from a pre med.

Try free clinics and nursing homes, convalescent facilities...they may have less rigid reqs than hospitals.

Sure call your doc for suggestions.

Go to your college's career office and use the alumni database to find physicians in your city. Some even have this online for their students and alumni.

Join a local pre-med group and ask around.
