how to get a 24+

what does it take to get a 24 + or close on each section of this. Please list sources and any advise and strategies (SPECIALLY FOR THE DAMN RC AND QR).

a huge piece of advice i have is to get the destroyer and a marble notebook - go thru the entire destroyer in DAT-sized portions (do 30 GC problems, look at solutions, then do 40 OC problems, and so on) and make notes of what you got wrong, what you didn't know, and things you think you'll forget - all in the marble notebook. I went thru the destroyer twice this way and wound up with a marble notebook with about 15 pages back and front chalked full of random factoids and stuff. I studied it whenever I could; this past summer I had this notebook with me wherever I went.

Before I started on destroyer, I read thru the kaplan blue book and ripped out those quicknotes sheets in the back of the book and just kept those in my marble notebook, so i had those to look at too.

CDP was an accurate representation of the PAT section - got the 10 test pak and did that. don't know about CDM, but wish I would've tried it - heard good things about it. haven't heard good things about CDR - i personally recommend the method you're most comfortable with - the trick is having eyes for keywords and concepts. i didn't use achiever, but took all the kaplan tests in the blue book, and topscore. the main thing I would emphasize is PRACTICE. do as many practice problems and tests as you can. and with each practice test, write down in your marble notebook everything you got wrong, you didn't know, or you think you might forget. and repeat.
 
QR is stupidly easy if you are competent at math and RC is too if you can actually read. The math on the QR is at "worst" trig and algebra and if you know these topics and are fresh on them it should be a joke. For people who haven't had math in years it'll be different because you forget what you dont reinforce. RC is mostly just finding a word for word answer in a passage with minimal analysis. The analysis/synthesis/inference type questions are at a minimum and when are there are very straightforward.

But the best preparation in my experience is just knowing these things generally, and taking some practice tests to get into the rhythm/timing of the exam.
 
The difference between a 24+ and a 21/22/23 is timing. timing timing timing. someone with a 25 is not exponentially smarter than someone with a 22, he just knows the structure of the exam well enough to score that high. if you get the timing down correctly, and you're moderately intelligent, a 24+ is easily achievable.

I agree with this. People who get 25+ are not geniuses by any means. They just give themselves enough time to focus on every question. Finishing a section early can do amazing things to your score. The biggest thing is reducing stress. If youre not stressed from seeing that clock wind down, then youre free to make your most educated guess on the hardest questions (rather than just clicking indiscriminately). I didn't usually get ridiculous scores on my practice tests (and I rarely finished RC and QR on time). On the real dat, though, I was able to finish every section early, and that's when I was able to do my best.

To the OP... to develop this timing, you just need practice. For me, achiever and CDM worked the best for practicing timing. Achiever forces you to think faster because a lot of questions are super difficult. And I finished about half of the CDMs I took w/in the 45 min, so this really helped improve my timing.

i agree. I don't think schools care if a student has 21 or 24 (24+ is another story). Once you get above 21 or 22, it's a matter of who is more diligent. And if you look at predents closely, you'll notice, DAT is not a big factor in admissions. it is merely used as a filter, as long as you break threshold with gpa and DAT, you get interviewed (of course OOS consideration plays a major role, that's why we see some 22s+ get rejected straight out).
