I just wanted to get some answers on things because I've been hearing mixed answers on all of these questions.
1. Does the medical school you go to determine if you get a neurosurgical resident spot? I've read a lot of things on here from people who say that unless your top 5% of an top school like Ivy League or John Hopkins then your chances are very slim. Does it really matter how competitive the school is? Like say if you went to UNC chapel hill or Emory and were in the top percentage of your class wouldn't you have just as much chance as if you went to John Hopkins and graduated at the top of the class as well?
2. Also it seems that most neurosurgeons or even neurologist have MD/Ph.D and rarely ever just an MD. Is that just because because they are probably interested in research or is it easier to get into neurosurgery if you also have a Ph.D?
