So i posted this on the "VCU & Maryland" thread earlier today. since then the thread has turned into a pissing contest and i haven't received any input. thanks roadshow! Anyway, i am interested to know what you all think about my "plan" to get VCU's attention (i have not yet received an interview invite from them, but i am really interested in the school)....here it is...

I am running in the Richmond Marathon on Nov. 15th. If i have not heard from VCU by then, i am strongly considering fabricating a large sign with my name, stats, aadsas #, and the message "TO VCU-DENTAL ADCOM: How about an interview?". I plan to carry this sign above my head for all 26.2 miles. Surely, someone from the school is sure to notice and rely the message back to the admission office...whataya think?

I'd go for it. Make sure you have your aadsas number on it. That way they'll know exactly which application to throw into the trash....

Maybe if you give them a call they will see your bright and sparkling personality and say, "Oh man, why haven't we interviewed this kid yet? He's gonna be a star when it comes to working with patients."

yeah yeah, do it. i think that if you can keep your hands up above your head for 26 miles, you should get an acceptance just based on that; hell, you should be handed a dentistry license, and your own office!!!!

lmao funny stuff

Hey there, I think that is a good idea to stand out. I contacted the last school I applied to and DIDN't receive an interview, and next thing you know they gave me one in a week. They might have overlooked it. Seriously, you should keep checking, cause who knows, out of those thousands of applications, many are bound to get misplaced.

yeah, the thought that it could backfire entered my mind. at the moment i am pretty crazy looking with my RayHawk and handlebar mustache so I am not sure if revealing myself in person would be a wise thing to do...

i tried holding my hands above my head for 20 minutes at lunch today (it was a bet against a buddy in light of my vcu idea, i won) but it was damn hard. maybe "wear" my sign, a la bruce willis in die hard III?

Hey-

I just read that thread. Don't worry about "theroadshow"....he won't ever be practicing. Anyway, if VCU is one of your personal favorite choices, then I would say go ahead and get their attention. What do you have to lose? Haha, the huge sign might have some wind-drag though. On a serious note though, why not at least give them a call😉. Maybey set up a visit.

lets just say that they are exactly receptive to phonecalls...but i understand completely why they make this a policy...hence, the sign for the marathon

hey there!! so coming from a fellow marathoner.... do you think you can carry a sign for 26 miles... i know im usually so focused on my body that a sign would impair that a bit...

anyways - - probably not a good idea.... BUT once you get the interview, the admissions people pretty much pee their pants about the fact that we're so young and run marathons... apparently we can take a lot of physical and mental stress or something... LOL. anyways... probably not even worth it.... no one watches or attends marathons unless their loved ones are in it... the chances someone will see it is pretty nil.

let me know if you wanna talk running times!! good luck!!

I actually think the sign is a good idea, first off you will probably be picked up be the TV people and will be on TV. Admissions people definitely do watch TV. Also, as long as you dont do anything dangerous or illegal, IMO a school will like the fact that you have a personality and a sense of humor and i think will appreciate your dedication and desire to go to VCU.

hoss, keep emailing contact/find something to "keep them posted" on. Dude, you've given me a good chuckle. I hope to see you in class next summer there at VCU... and when you get your interview - be yourself and I'm willing to bet that they'll like you.

im trasveling right now, but over the weekend i am going to work with my artsy fartsy friend to fashion an appropriate sign....she suggested that i actually make a t-shirt (brilliant...) instead of wearing a sign....ill keep you all posted...

Yeah a T-shirt would be a nice idea! White with black lettering so it can stick out and be read? Good luck.
