Hi, can anyone tell me how to get a Vet assistant job? I want to register for NAVLE but for that I need to get a job as vet assistant first so that I can be in the US or Canada and thereby start processing the procedures.

Not quite sure what you are asking/talking about. You seem to be talking about two different exams and neither of them, to my knowledge (NAVLE for sure) does not require you to be currently in the US or working (especially as a vet assistant) to take them.

You may wish to visit www.nbvme.org for more info about the NAVLE or http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/contacts.asp for more info about the ECFVG.

👍Oooh I am glad that finally someone answered though many had been just looking at it. Thanks for replying Nexx.
I meant that (in details) salary structure here in India is quite less for a vet comparing to the rest of the world. So to register for ECFVG and then fees for the various steps of NAVLE as well as gain some hands on experience on US Clinical work environment for the CPE in the US as well as travel expenses the only option is to get work as veterinary assistant job first (for which we are enough qualified) and then move forward with the exams.

Hey,

That makes a bit more sense now. Most people find veterinary nurse/assistant/tech jobs via their local newspaper or simply by calling clinics they are interested in working at in their local area to see if they have job openings.

As a side note nurse/tech titles usually means that a person has formal education/certification for nursing/technician, assistants are usually on-the-job trained -- each state varies on actual jobs each can perform. You would have to look into each state you are interested in as to what they will recognize your level of education even though you are a qualified vet in India.

I don't know your current financial situation but if you were looking for a sponsor to help you come to the US, it is unlikely that a company would sponsor someone as a veterinary assistant/nurse/tech -- these are lower-pay jobs in the US and the job market is horrible right now in general.

So all that said, finding a job is probably a matter of calling clinics and sending out a curriculum vitae and cover letter explaining your situation and interest in the city/town you wish to work in the US.

Good luck

Thanks a lot Nexx. Fortunately/Unfortunately I am qualified with a post graduate degree and a whole lot experience more than 5 years in small animals and 3 years in wildlife but not getting the right platform as of now.
