How to get into an Integrated Vascular Residency

My home program is in the middle of structuring an integrated vascular residency which should be completed in the next year or two. I would very much like to match with this program but I know a lot of that magic is out of my hands. That being said how can I stack the odds in my favor? I know a good step 1 score is necessary as well as some research....any other ideas?
