hey guys, i'm a relatively new premed student, and was wondering how one would go about getting into research. i figured i would post a thread here since most of you guys are veterans who know a gajillion more things than i do. anyways, i've been wanting to get into research, particularly cancer research, for a while now and don't really know where to start. anybody have ideas of where to start, other than asking professors? any kind of medical research would be great, whether it's lab or clinical, preferrably long term. i'm in the los angeles area, so if anyone knows of a particular program or person i can contact, i would appreciate it if you could share what you know. thanks in advance!

You can start by asking your professors at your school, or going to the department that you are interested in working in and asking what projects they have going on. You can also email people you locate if you have an affiliated med school and see if you can do research.
