I am a potential reapplicant for the upcoming cycle (currently on 3 waitlists), and am starting to feel out and apply to jobs for the next year if I don't get off any of the wait lists and need to sit out another year. One thing I realized when I was doing research on healthcare for interviews was that I am really passionate and interested in healthcare policy, and I would love to be able to get involved in healthcare reform and policy in the next year in either a volunteer or professional context. Does anyone have any ideas about how I could go about locating or learning more about potential jobs or volunteering opps in this field?

Thanks!

DC is really the mecca of policy jobs and there are a lot in Baltimore too since that's where CMS is based. But if you're not in either of those cities, I'd check out any universities nearby with schools of public health, health policy non-profits (there are a lot), and local departments of public health. There's a lot going on, but it's pretty hard to get into both political and research fields without knowing people, so I'd work any connections you have and also check out your alumni network!

The National Institute for Health Care Reform is a good way to gather information. I recommend reading both sides of the issue and forming your own opinion on how to deal with the certain situation the USA is in. Very interesting stuff and a very good field to get into, lots of opportunity.
