So I'm taking the mcat July 2nd and just got a 11/8/8 on aamc 5...I've been stuck in the 8s and 9s plateau for the longest time and would like some advice on how you guys got past that. PS score was pretty exciting for me today, but I haven't really been able to get above a 9 on the BS even after months of content review. I've been taking kaplan and also practicing on some of the gold standard tests, it's so frustrating not being able to break 30 after months of studying! 🙁

I was also surprised about how my verbal score is dropping since I used to score 10s when I first started taking these a few months ago, so I guess I'm becoming more illiterate with practice?

My verbal fluctuate wildly also from 7-12 range w/ practice tests.

As for your BS score of 8, I think a little bit more content review would be helpful.
I'd also try to look at experimental based passages and see the thought process that is used to reach an answer. AAMC 9-11 are more representative of types of PS and BS questions you'll get.

Yeah isn't it crazy how much verbal can fluctuate depending on the day or the passages you get??

And yeah I think you're right about the content, unfortunately when I started studying a few months ago, I didn't know that AAMC 9-11 were the best ones to take, so I started with those ones and only have 7 and 8 left 🙁

You could take them again. I find that a few months and working through 100s of problems I'd forget the content of the test.

Sent from my phone.

Please don't take this as discouraging... I was in your spot, and I accepted it that I never could pass my plateau number.

I think this plateau happens to a lot of Kaplan kids. Since you have access to QBank I would hit that hard!!! Good Luck!

that's a good idea! i took aamc 11 back in february so ill probably take that again since it was all a giant blur back then. thanks 🙂

haha i gotcha but i plateaued at 7s a while back and finally got up to 8s and 9s...just need a little push to get over that hump too i guess

My advice is to really concentrate on reviewing the questions you have done. I think many people just breeze through the explanations when these are by far the MOST important part of preparation. You should be taking detailed notes on each explanation (whether you got the question right or wrong) and then reviewing these notes often.

you're definitely right about the review process, the problem I have though with some of the kaplan practice tests are that their explanations are SO long it's hard for me to get the main idea from the long paragraph explanations they give me...also have trouble sometimes connecting the passage information to the questions (mostly bio), any advice for that?
