Quick question that I'm sure has been answered before: How do you go about applying for TY/Prelim programs? Do you wait until you get interviews and then send out your application list to those schools only? I have a feeling this would be really late to submit your ERAS. Or do you apply regionally to the same areas and schools where you applied for ophtho before getting interviews? Any help or links to previous threads would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would apply regionally. If there is a location that you really want to live in for a year, I would blanket all of the programs in that area. You should send in your ERAS soon after you send out your CAS through SFmatch. Yes, it's unfair to make all of these decisions about your life without knowing what the outcome will be in January! +pity+

I made a timeline that you can look at through the FAQ sticky on this forum. Scroll down a bit. If anyone is interested in SoCAl transition/prelim (IM or Gsurg) programs feel free to PM me. I interviewed at a lot and can tell you which ones are good or more important, which ones to STAY AWAY from.
Good luck!

I agree with ruben. do not wait to send in your eras application. Many prelim and especially Ty programs give out interviews on a first come first served basis. When I applied, I heard from two previous applicants who waited until the end of september to send in their eras and were left with only one or two ty interview offers (they were strong applicants). Just send it in during the first week of september. You can always cancel interviews!!
