Hi guys! So I'm not apply this cycle because I figured it be rushing it and decided to hold back till next cycle. I'm currently finishing my post bac. In the mean time, I want to make sure I make the most of this year in terms of experience/building what I already have. I am also considering doing a masters or an SMP after applying next year. (Sorry for the length post)
UG: cGPA 3.01, sGPA 2.77 -> Post bac: cGPA 3.55, sGPA ~3.2-3.3 (planning on finishing post bac fall semester)
MCAT: Took it 2018 but voided, taking it January 2020 and aiming 510+
Clinical:
-ER scribe (roughly 2 year by next year cycle)
**also considering becoming an EMT to volunteer/work
-Clinic volunteer in my post bac (mostly homeless, underserved population)
-Clinic volunteer at a local clinic at my place of worship
Shadowing:
-Shadowing a PCP and Cardiologist towards end of this year
Non-Clincal:
-Food bank volunteer starting this summer
-Part of RockMed (volunteer organization where I volunteer with my CPR card at games and concerts)
- 3 years of volunteering as Publicity Assistant at my undergrad
-Volunteering with a Autism organization or Red Cross this summer
Research:
-2 quarters in Nutrition lab in UG (never really clicked with wet research)
-2 years in lab as a lab assistant at an Autism Lab (mostly inventoried samples from participants and discussed new findings in the field)
I also did 2 volunteer internships that were both 2 quarters long at my undergrad hospital (Peds ICU and Surgery center) but I'm not entirely sure if they could be clinical or not? In the Peds ICU, I was mostly in charge of the activity room and would occasionally hold the patients (so clinical?) and in the surgery center I mostly cleaned up after surgery and had chances to observe some surgeries.
I am also going to try to do more volunteer clinical and non clinical work.
I also don't want to just check boxes but if anyone has any input into anything else I'm missing, please let me know! I know there are a lot of clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, etc around me so I should be easy to find opportunities to do other stuff. I'm not even sure if they way I organized my EC into the categories is even correct.
