Step 1: 231/99
Preclinical grades: few Honors
3rd yr grades: all Pass
Publications: 3 (1 basic sci, 2 non ortho Surgery Case Reports)
Research: 2 basic sci in undergrad, 1 basic sci in med school, 2 clinical non ortho surgery research in med school
Extracurricular: few leadership positions during med school (ie. public relations, secretary of certain student clubs, etc)

I have set up to take step 2 by early Sept, and 2 ortho electives

Any recommendations on what to do to improve my application?

Your lack of Honors in your 3rd year is going to be tough to overcome, especially if there is a "high pass" grade in between. Find out why you didn't get better grades and remedy that ASAP! Rock your 4th year rotations, especially any away rotations. Concentrate your away rotations on "less competitive/desireable" places. 3rd year grades are VERY important, just behind step 1 scores (yours is good but not outstanding). Your research sounds solid, but some ortho research would look good IF it doesn't interfere with your ability to get good grades on your rotations.
