I didn't match last year and I'm trying to do what I can to improve my chances of matching this year. I'm assisting with a few research projects. I'm also volunteering in a free clinic. The administrator of the free clinic said I could essentially act like a medical student there and see patients with oversight from the attendings because they have some sort of very broad malpractice insurance that covers everyone. How do I list that on my ERAS application? I'm doing more than shadowing, but to say that I'm providing patient care makes it sound like I'm doing more than I'm really doing. Is there a good way to list what I'm doing?

You list it as a volunteer experience (since you aren't being paid), and describe just as you have above. You interviewed, examined, evaluated patients and presented findings and recommendations to staff.

Yeah, just describe it like you did above. I got the impression you are taking on a signifigant amount of responsibility and should highlight that.

It's like some of my fourth year rotations where I had a lot of responsibility. Thanks, Alexander Pink, M.D.🙂
