I was offered a position with CVS. And it happened pretty quickly. I wasn't expecting it. I didn't even apply for the position and I wasn't even interviewed. It was handed to me on a silver platter. I was caught off guard.

The problem is that I'd like to stay on with a grocery store. And I don't want to move two hours away from home.

How do I keep my offer with CVS while looking into other options. I'd really like to work for Publix. They are apparently hiring floaters in my area and the supervisor said he'd potentially give me an interview. So I sent my CV to him just minutes ago and am waiting to hear back (probably next week).

What do I do? ...this happened way too fast.

Oh it should be mentioned that I haven't actually received the offer letter. The district manager told me that he was going to send it though. So, I'm still in the beginning stages of CVS. Heck, I don't even know their system. I've never stepped foot into CVS.

You don't have an offer.

Keep looking.

Just say I did then. What would I do if that were the case?

I just want the answer.

continue to interview with publix, when u get the offer, decline CVS...

I can tell you that CVS is going to push me to hurry. They want me to move to the location quickly so I can train ASAP.

It's a high-volume store. So I understand. They do 4,000-4,500 per week. They've offered me $57 (half pay until I get licensed) an hour. I'd rather stay with Publix and float for $53ish an hour.

I agree with Z that you don't have an offer. But if you did, it would have a timetable for acceptance/decline that you'd need to adhere to. And you'd have to stick to that pretty firmly. They won't give you extra time to think it over/hedge your bets when there are 10+ other people willing to give them an answer right now. But you don't have an offer, nor a deadline, so you can continue to apply and interview wherever you want. :luck:

I don't understand what you mean. The supervisor set me up for an interview and told me to send him my CV. After I sent it to him, he decided he didn't need to interview me. The reason why is because I have a friend who told this guy all this amazing crap about me.

So, the supervisor said "Alright, I don't really have any questions for you. I'm just going to go ahead and offer the you the position. We'll get this going. Send me a copy of your intern license, and do this paper application for me. I'll have an offer in the mail."

He gave me specifics on which store I'd be working at, the volume of the store, the salary, and he said we'd have this going.

If that's not an offer, then I don't know what is.

Just ask your DM for Publix if it's possible to conduct interview at his earliest convenience since you did get an offer from CVS but you would prefer to work for Publix and don't want to accept CVS' offer until you know for sure you didn't get the job with Publix.

I don't think you can handle the answer.
Are you licensed?

1. Take the CVS job.
2. Proceed with CVS
3. Proceed with Publix.
4. Quit CVS if publix offers.
5. Stay with CVS if publix doesn't hire you.

Pretty simple.

That offer is as set in stone as verbally telling somebody you're buying their house.

I can do that? Won't that kill any future relationship with CVS? I don't want to burn bridges here.

What did you tell him when he made the offer?

I told him to let me get my hands on the CVS computer system module. He said he was already working on that. He said he'd give me his username and password if he had to so that I could learn the system quickly.

And I didn't say "I guarantee that I'll work for you" but my overall response was acceptance of the position. I basically said I'd do whatever he needed me to do to make it happen.

But I haven't signed anything yet. So I thought I was good.

You can't have it both ways dood. Either take the CVS job or don't.

Okay guys, I'm not here to say "I HAVE AN OFFER." I just want to know how to best handle the situation if I do, in fact, have an offer. I don't want to tick these people off. I want to have the best opportunity at staying with a grocery store pharmacy.

I was not expecting this. I want to keep the (potential) opportunity, but I want to keep it distant until I know nothing else is available.

It wasn't my immediate response. It was something I told him that I wanted to do. I want to learn CVS's system. Why is that weird?

I don't think that will be possible. Like I said, there are 10+ people behind you, willing to say yes right now.

You've never worked in a CVS, they want to put you in a high volume store, it's two hrs away, you're a new grad and no interview? I think they are selling you a lemon. You might want to do some research on this location.

Right, but I want to hold the offer (or whatever it is) off until I know what Publix will do.

Again...I said take the job with CVS...proceed until publix offers...then burn that bridge if it happens. In your situation with what you want that is the least evil. Otherwise you will end up jobless if you don't take CVS and publix doenst offer. You will still have burned the bridge. If offer is extended by CVS, then its too late...regardless you take the job or not you're committed to a potential degree of burn bridgeness.

Well, from what I understand, they are doing an investigation of the stores in the area. I don't know if the store I'm going to is included... but I suspect that would be why they need people.

A John Deere one.

A real diesel tractor with attachments? Then why don't you buy my neighbors house coming up for sale? Its 10 wooded acres. We can be great friends....I will let you park the tractor on my property.

That's probably your best option.

You don't have a job with CVS anyway until you've passed their personality test. I know many people who have not.

Alright, you guys are awesome. I'll proceed with the CVS job and try to get the job with Publix.

The question was more asked out of "Worst case scenario." I know that the status of the job could change at any time. I just wanted to know how to handle it.

That means you'd have to give me a j-o-b.

We want to live on a large piece of land for reals.

I will even overlook you underachieveness of only exhibiting posters at Ashp during p3 and p4 and not p2...and hire you..

And only publishing during my p4 year and not earlier......

What kind of job we talking?

Many pharmacists in the dept live on acreage...the difference here compared to your home state or TX is that we are surrounded by mountains and rivers with wooded lots on rolling hills. Big trees....not those shrubs.....no tornados.

Fishing?

I agree with Z. Keep both sides in the running as long as you can is the logical course of action.

If I was in your shoes, I would respond to CVS in a timely but not overly speedy manner. Mean while I will apply pressure to Publix for a quicker decision. (1) it may make him wonder if you are truely that good, and (2) if he don't make the offer in time, it's the same as not making the offer at all.

It's the logical course of action until you are absolutely forced to choose one.

If you'd stop with the Medicaid babies, you'd have time for important stuff.. :meanie:

I had to find a way to support myself and baby daddy....food stamps and Medicaid all the way! Plus the free Escalade with a kilo of coke in the back wasn't too bad a bonus for baby number seven.

I don't hire clipboard pharmacists. Every one of my pharmacists are hybrids. By I need more presence in NICU and oncology....and family practice residency and clinics.

NICU is my thing!! So ha! Now you HAVE to hire me!

I don't believe in clipboard pharmacy either.....I think the best position is hybrid...you learn exponentially more that way.

Oh, I think you mean baby daddies. Don't be shy, girl! 😀

By far the best fishing in the country. Trout year round....large bass and catfish in the big lakes....also land locked salmon..... currently pacific spring salmon getting pulled out of snow melt rivers. I may go Sunday......September Chinook salmon runs followed by steelhead. Then it repeats. Best fishing ever.....heck..I haven played golf because of fishing

Ugh, well I only know who one baby daddy is for the seven although they're all different so I just try to act like its just one.

The hubs would die.....sounds like exactly where we want to live. Seriously.

Smart move. I keep my baby daddies on lockdown, though. They are all on Medicaid too, so I confiscate their free monthly bag of cocaine in lieu of child support.

So you're an ADMIN and you condone the complete hijacking of a thread?

Your question was answered. That's no hijacking.

There may have been more people who had valuable input. Surprisingly, this is one of the worst forums that I've been to when it comes to hijacking threads.

After all, there is the "Create New Thread" option.

I only jack stupid threads. Remember you were taught there are no stupid questions. .....well not really true..... there are more stupid questions on this forum... we answered your question which you could have answered yourself.

So now some of us old members are catching up. You have issues with that?
