Hey guys,

Sorry in advance if this question is redundant - I submitted an abstract to a national conference that has been accepted for a podium presentation and an e-poster with me as the first author, but my PI will actually be the one to do the oral presentation at the conference. How would I list this on a CV? Would I list it as an oral presentation or just a poster? Or both?

Question's been asked and answered many times, and people feel very strongly one way or the other.

Personally, I would list it as a podium presentation and specifically say "by Dr. PI" to make it clear that while you're the first author, someone else stood up at the podium. That's just me, others will argue that it should be "just a poster," but I think it's meaningful if you were first author on work that was impactful enough to be presented at a podium. And I don't think it's disingenuous if you are being honest and up front about who did what.

If it's helpful, this is what I did:

GoSpursGo, 2nd author, ... PI. Title. Podium presentation at Meeting by Dr. PI. Location. Date.

Agree with GSG. List it as an Oral Presentation because the quality of the work (what you were first author) was worthy of an oral presentation. What I'd do is put an asterisk by the PI's name, then later in the citation put *Presenting Author, usually at the end after the meeting.

Oral presentation is way bigger of a deal than an ePoster, even if you personally didn't give the talk.
