How did you end up deciding on a surgical specialty? It feels impossible for me to make a decision and work towards it. Does anyone have any tips to rule out specialties?

How did you end up deciding on a surgical specialty? It feels impossible for me to make a decision and work towards it. Does anyone have any tips to rule out specialties?

- are you sure you want to do something surgery?
- if so, how competitive are you?
- if competitive: what disease processes and what anatomy/physiology are you interested in?
- what clinic/OR balance are you looking for? Some have more clinic and clinic based procedures vs others
- if not competitive, that eliminates a lot of options for you.
