Hi guys, I could really use your help. Looking at the enormous amounts of debt many people end up with after medical school, I'm wondering what ways there are to make money during medical school (in order to pay for necessities like rent, food, etc.). I imagine research and TA-ing are two ways, but how much do those jobs tend to pay and does anyone have other suggestions? In particular, I'm interested in what opportunities there are at UMich, but info from other schools would be great too. -- Thanks!

How about CPR instruction or teaching MCAT prep? I make pretty good money with that.

Most people don't worry about the money situation until after they are done with school (and often delay it until after residency). My $.02 would be to take out enough loans to cover tuition, rent, books, etc and also enough to live comfortably. After school you can get a "deferment" plan since residents make very little money. You really should concentrate on school while in medical school...and not try to balance too much else (especially if you have a family). You really don't have to worry much about repayments until the end of residency. And by that time, what's another couple thousand dollars? I would recommend meeting with a med. school financial advisor...I've found them quite nice and informative.

Ditto. I get $35/week to maintain our class website. Sweet deal.
