How to pass *READING COMP* in DAT

Hi everyone,

Just like many other foreigners I struggle the most with The RC section in the DAT. I feel like when I read I dont absorb the info at all and have to reread many time which is a disadvantage on a timed exam. What do you guys recommend for me to do well? I take my DAT next year and my weakenesses are reading, and math any tips when reading passages? Should I just read practice passages until I get tired?

My advice would be to read a couple hours a day, but when you read, read for understanding. Check yourself after every couple sentences and ask “do I understand what this is saying” if not, go back and keep rereading the parts that you are not understanding. Then use google search to help you with words or concepts that you need explained as you are rereading the difficult parts.

This was my worst subject the first time i took the DAT, look at my latest post to improve your score miraculously. My RC on first DAT was 13, today i took it and made a 22. My strategy i use is simple yet effectful. I was worried about RC but practiced the strategy on 3 practice test and made 19-21 on practice and 22 on DAT today.

I suggest reading at least one Scientific American Article per day. By doing this, you can train your brain to read faster and extract information more efficiently. Moreover, exposing yourself to science-based reading passages will expand your knowledge on various subject matters that may very well appear on the DAT!
