Right now I work full time in a job I absolutely disdain, like many others I assume. There's a reason we're all on this forum, but I digress. I'm trying to finish my pre reqs as quickly as possible. My timetable is two years of classes. Unfortunately I can't finish in two years due to my work schedule and class offerings. What's odd is that I live in a major city, but there are hardly in nighttime/weekend classes. And San Antonio traffic is so bad after work that it could take me 1-2 hours just to drive 15 miles to campus. A 5:30 or 6:00 class is unrealistic. I'm going to have to resign at some point. To those who quit full time jobs for their post Bacc studies - how did you pay your bills? Did you take on loans? Work side jobs? My apartment is $1200 a month and I'm trying to figure out how to not be homeless. How did you get by? Sorry I'm having a minor breakdown trying to plan all of this. Luckily I don't have any kids or a S/O.

I wish I could be a happy corporate drone like my peers... Life would be simple lol.

Thanks.

P.S. Someone is going to recommend going longer than 2 years, but I really want to avoid that. I'm already 28 and I'm sure I'll be a reapplicant too given my shoddy academic past. Not to mention I don't want to stay at my current job for that long.

You can take out loans through the school you are taking post-bacc classes. Can you move to a cheaper place with roommates to save money? Switch to a part-time job? Family help?

I personally downsized my living space, had spousal help (family in your case?), took on loans, sold my car, worked part-time, and took on work study.

Pretty much what they said...you really have to want to be a doc, lol! I dont even want to think about how much money I have already spent on school, test prep, MCAT. If I did I would most likely give up. I gave up a pretty good paying job and have been living VERY low income for a few years. I had to get used to the income difference. Scale down, good luck!

Wow, its been a while since I lived in San Antonio but I'm amazed it costs $1200 for an apt there. You can rent a 2500 Sq Ft house in Fort Worth in a good school district for less than that.

Ah, how I miss Texas. My 1 Br/1 Ba 850 sq-ft cottage in San Diego was $1500/mo. It was $1250 a month, but they added a washer/dryer. Now that I'm moving back to San Diego with 2 kids, we're moving into base housing. They take all our BAH ($2400/mo), but we get a 3 Br/2.5 Ba place that's about 2000 sq-ft with a 2-car garage and all utilities covered.
