How to pick HHMI med fellows mentor?

Hi all,

I want to do an HHMI medical research fellowship in between m3 and m4. I do not want to do it at my medical school so I need to find a mentor at another institution.

Anyone have any advice into how to find a mentor? I am meeting my deans next week to get my application started but any other advice would be great! Any tips on e-mailed prospective mentors or how to put a great application together?

Figure out what you're interested in, see if there are any mentors interested in having HHMI fellows (I believe there is a place on the HHMI website to find this) and contact them giving background about yourself, past research experience (if any) and why you're interested in their work.
