Hello all,

While my applications are being completed I thought I'd ask here on how to prepare for the interviews since I have no idea where to start!

so..generally what types of questions do they ask? do they give us a specific situation to consider? or any other general job interview questions?

and does anyone recommend reading certain books? Are there such books as 'how to ace dental school interviews' etc?
And for the attire, do they like to see really really conservative not too pretty-suites for women?

Thanks in advance!🙂

wow I didn't know such thing existed here..Thanks!!

I personally think that preparing for interviews is a waste of time. When I went to my interviews- waiting for my turn, I would close my eyes and recall what I wrote on my personal statement and thought of what makes me, "me".
IMO, being true at the interview is key. Blowing sunshine not so good.🙂

Good advice. For what ever reason, I have been confident about interviewing up until now (2 days from my interview). I think I will try your approach.

Practice answering questions with other people (people who won't make you laugh) and be very confident in answering the common questions like: who are you? why dentistry? why this school?

Hello all,

Don't freak out about interviews. Most schools have very relaxed and laid back interviews. Generally, the whole purpose of the interview is for them to see how well you can communicate and to gauge your social skills (Obviously, they already know you're a decent student, or else you wouldn't have been sitting there). So, the most important thing is to be able to present yourself in a decent manner.
Some undergrad schools have workshops that will prepare you for interviews.
If your school doesn't provide this service, then your best bet is to practice with friends and family members.

If you consider yourself a good speaker, you shouldn't worry too much about the interview. Be yourself and avoid playing the role of the "Perfect Applicant." They'll know when you're BSing them!
We all have weaknesses and shortcomings. Don't feel like you must hide them. In fact, some schools will ask questions like "What are some of your weaknesses and how have yo managed to address them?"

Every school is different.
-Some ask you why you chose dentistry?
-Why you chose their school over other schools?
-What makes you a better applicant compared to others?

Sometimes, if something in your application catches their eye, they'll ask you about it during the interview. So, hopefully, you've filled out an honest application. Nevertheless, make sure you review your application before stepping into that interview.

They want to see something professional!
So, you probably don't want to look too flashy. At the same time, you don't want to look like you're attending a funeral.

Thanks in advance!🙂

solid advice. The interview is just a time for the school and you to get to know each other.... cliched already. Just answer the questions truthfully and ask questions that help you decide which school is the right one.
