Upon further research on the application cycle, I want to know some tips on becoming a top applicant to the top medical schools. I want to be that guy that gets interviews to all these top schools and get some nice scholarships(I can dream). I wonder how I can go on to achieve this?

I am an incoming freshman and have heard of the importance of research and publications. How can I beef up my ECs and start getting into this stuff?

Check with your campus departments (chemistry, physics, bio lab, etc...) about potential research positions and extend your services. Great research opens the door for possible publications. ECs are absolutely crucial to top tier schools, but at a first glance, GPA and MCAT scores play a HUGE portion as well. You must be the absolute best of the best. Dreams are for sleeping, make this a goal 😉

Every time I've seen something like this happen, the person usually has at least two of the following:

-URM status/Interesting life story
-GPA and MCAT >90th percentile of students accepted to given school (so for a top school we're talking in the ballpark of 3.95+ and 523+)
-Impressively extensive, unique ECs that are usually especially stellar in one or more area

Can't stress this enough! With so many different applicants, it's becoming increasingly more difficult to stick out in the crowd. Aim for something that will make you stand out!
