I'm an intern and am applying for state licensure and to take the Comlex step 3. My understanding is my MD counterparts went to www.FSMB.org and filled out the form, were sent a form to paste a picture to, which they subsequently mailed somewhere and then registered for step 3, or something like that. Do I also 1st register at FSMB.org? I tried to call the lady there and she told me to call NBOME, which I knew was wrong. Help!

The licensing process depends on which state you are applying for licensure in, and whether or not there is a separate osteopathic medical board in your state.

This site has the list of the state medical boards (including the osteopathic medical boards):
http://www.fsmb.org/usmle_eliinitial.html

As a DO, in order to be licensed, you only need to complete all levels of the COMLEX. States with osteopathic medical boards may additionally require completion of a rotating internship or a Resolution 42 exemption.

You then fill out the paperwork and get the signatures required as per the requirements of your state.

The process took about 1 1/2 to 2 months in total for me.

You'll need to take Step 3 of the COMLEX before you can get a license.

Go to: www.nbome.org

Click on the "Access online system" link on the left.

Press the big red ACCESS button.

Then you get this really great sign in form that asks for your username and password or your secure code from the NBOME. If you don't have either of those, there's an 800 number to call.
