Ok so this is my first post on the SDN, although I have read quite a few informative posts from others. I couldn't find information about how we are supposed to report the hours spent shadowing docs. Is that on the AACOMAS, should it be put under EC's? Any helpful advice would be great!

Yes, it goes under ECs. For position title... put "Shadowed Dr. ______, D.O."

For description, put what you got to see (like procedures, etc.). If you had hands on experience using medical equipment during the experience, put that as well.

Although this is not normal or recommended, I didn't put shadowing hours anywhere on my aacomas and got accepted.

Do you mean you left the "hours completed" section completely blank for your shadowing activity?

Hey thanks for the tips guys. My buddy applied last year and got accepted at two schools and he said he didn't list anywhere on the primary that he shadowed docs. I thought that was strange since so many "require" shadowing that I figured we have to list that somewhere. Do secondaries ask for that kind of info?

I am listing it under activities. Put the date range that you shadowed, estimate your total hours and how many hours you spent a week. Under description, write who and where you shadowed and explained what you did/what you learned.

I just didn't even mention that I shadowed anywhere on my application except for a few sentences in my personal statement.

I was going to save the "what I learned" for interviews and secondaries. Think I should include it in primary?

I just thought it was best to cover all the bases in my primary since you never know if you will get the chance to explain in the secondary/interview (you probably will though). My EC's are also not very strong so I want to list as many activities as possible. I also heard it's not a bad thing to write about an experience twice, especially if you bring a different perspective to it each time.
